HERON is the Ercopac top-covering system designed to apply the top cover to the upper surface of the pallet during the crucial phase between palletizing and wrapping.
The system automatically picks up the film from the roll, positions it precisely on the pallet, and prepares it for subsequent wrapping, ensuring complete protection from rain, dust, and moisture while improving the overall stability of the load.
Manual or non-optimized application of the top film results in slow operations, material waste, and misalignments that compromise subsequent wrapping, as well as downtime associated with reel changes. HERON eliminates these inefficiencies by ensuring uniformity and repeatability on every pallet, continuously, without slowing down the line’s flow.
HERON is compatible with half-pallets, Euro-pallets, and industrial pallets, and is designed to integrate with Spider wrappers as a complementary system for a complete end-of-line solution.
The hallmark of HERON is the automatic top film reel carriage change, a patented solution that enables continuous, uninterrupted operation. Changing the top roll on any other system can take 7 to 10 minutes: with HERON, production is non-stop.
The system features a motorized drive at the bottom and requires no cutter for roll installation. HERON is equipped with an arm featuring a gripper spanning the full width of the film, enabling it to handle even very thin film. The film is cut using a low-expansion hot cutting wire; each carriage is equipped with its own dedicated wire. A box with a transparent cover allows the sensor statuses to be viewed without the need for disassembly.
Safety, Ergonomics, and Redundancy
The elimination of the electric hoist and the absence of suspended loads ensure high safety standards. All operations are performed at ground level, without the need to climb onto roller conveyors or structures, eliminating the risks typically associated with working at heights.
HERON enables more ergonomic reel handling and optimizes production processes. The absence of conveyors for accumulating finished product pallets reduces space requirements and operating costs.
The automatic changeover system is equipped with a dual-carriage design: while one carriage is undergoing a reel change, the other is already operational. No production downtime under any circumstances.
HERON works with top films ranging from 25 to 100 μ. The ability to use films as thin as 25 μm ensures significant economic and environmental savings. The system accepts reels up to 240 mm in diameter and weighing up to 100 kg, with bottom loading for maximum safety and ergonomics.
HERON is designed as a complementary system to Ercopac’s Spider wrappers. By integrating with Spider-S, Spider-C, and Spider-R, it completes the end-of-line cycle by adding top coverage to the pallet without interrupting production.
